INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY

"Each individual is responsible for himself." These are the words of Mary Baker Eddy, found in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 119). They may be said to answer a question often asked: To what extent am I responsible for the errors of others which are apparent to my own thought?

Christian Science unfolds the healing steps by which one is freed of all consciousness of evil. One of the first steps to be taken is the understanding that the human mind is dual in its nature—a supposed state of consciousness in which the five corporeal senses and spiritual sense, two opposite modes of consciousness, seem to exist side by side, though, like the tares and the wheat, never touching or mingling in any way.

Christian Science rouses individuals to reject the physical senses with their false presentments of creation as frail, temporal, and subject to destruction and to utilize spiritual sense, which unveils God as Spirit and His creation of spiritual concepts as tangible and beautiful beyond description.
