"IF I BE LIFTED UP"

No doubt everyone has at some time wanted very much to help another, yet has felt helpless to know how to proceed. Students of Christian Science feel certain they have found in this Science the answer to all mankind's problems; but there may be times when even they feel helpless. They may be inclined to say to themselves: If only my friend understood Christian Science! Then I could say something that would help.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 210), "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them." And farther on she adds, referring to the protective power of good thoughts, "And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited."

This was proved true to the writer recently when a beloved neighbor passed on. Though she herself had been completely healed of any sense of loss or separation, she had a great desire to help the daughter, who had collapsed a day or so later. In fact, she felt such a sense of concern for her that it was hard to keep her mind on the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, which Christian Scientists study each day. She became quite disturbed over the question of whether or not she should mention Science to the young woman, who was not responding to medical treatment.
