I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude to God for Christian Science. It was my privilege to receive instruction in the Christian Science Sunday School throughout childhood and to know no other religious teaching. The space allotted for a testimony would be insufficient for me to relate all the blessings which Science has brought to me during the years. I should like, however, to tell of two healings which have meant much to me.

In 1935, when to mortal sense economic depression was still widespread, I was suddenly faced with the problem of unemployment. The first idea of Truth which came to my consciousness at that time was, "You have Christian Science; so be more grateful for this now than ever before!" Instead of a problem I saw a glorious opportunity to prove what I knew of Truth. During the few days in which I sought employment, I constantly and joyfully declared that I was already at work reflecting God. I found my place in a very harmonious position that paid over twice as much as I had received before.

During the recent war I received many proofs of protection and other blessings as a result of applying the teachings of Christian Science. My unit was stationed for a time on the Belgian-Dutch border and was subjected to constant bombardment by enemy flying bombs. One night just after the Battle of the Bulge some of our men were discussing the bombardment. The fearful belief that surely one bomb "had our number" and would hit us was prevalent. I began my work immediately in Christian Science, recognizing that the belief of fear was the only danger, knowing that matter had no power to destroy anything real and that "perfect love casteth out fear" (I John 4:18).
