Proving the healing power of...

Proving the healing power of God's ever-operative law is a joyous privilege which has blessed me all my life. I attended a Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was three years old. What a priceless gift our Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, has given to us younger students, and also what an opportunity for us to build a good foundation of spiritual understanding!

During the recent war I had an opportunity to put to use the simple truths learned in the Sunday School, just prior to going into the service, I entered college, where I had to have a physical examination, which included an X ray. This showed evidence of active tuberculosis in both lungs. I was told by the authorities at the college that I would have to have a checkup periodically. I immediately did the right mental work as I had been taught to do in the Sunday School. Only one examination was needed to convince the college authorities of my complete healing. Shortly thereafter I entered the Army and passed its physical examination and also the examinations for Officers Candidate School three months later. Two days after the examinations for Officers Candidate School I was told to report to the hospital for observation, a scar having been found on one of my lungs.

I immediately called a Christian Science Wartime Minister, who helped me to see man as God's perfect child. After sixteen days of observation and tests of every kind, I was told that there was a large scar on one of my lungs, which I did not have to worry about, but which the Army felt constituted too great a risk for them to allow me to remain in the service. I was released and given a medical discharge. Shortly thereafter I started to work. The Army tried to have me submit papers which would substantiate a claim so that I might receive a pension. I did nothing to establish this claim because I knew that I was in perfect health and that therefore no claim existed. During this time I joined The Mother Church and a branch church. The Army, feeling I had a service-connected disability, went ahead with the claim, even though I did not turn in the necessary papers, and awarded me a pension eight months after I was discharged. I was required to have a physical examination at this time. This took place at a veterans' hospital. I was declared in good physical condition, and my pension was terminated. I received a letter stating that they could not agree with the examining board which had granted me a discharge, because the hospital examination proved that I did not have a disability.
