GOD AT HAND AND AFAR OFF

Humanity's beliefs about the nature of God are variable and often vague. Therefore the need for a clear, demonstrable understanding of Him and for a reason for man's being is constantly felt by mankind. Naturally, her thought turned to God. Somehow she knew that He was with her and also with those left behind; that He was indeed everywhere and would be with her wherever she went. Just how this could be, or what the nature of this protecting God was, she did not know; but for the time being the comfort of the thought was enough to quiet her fears. She was sustained by the promise (Ex. 33:14), "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest."
