I give this testimony with the...
I give this testimony with the sincere prayer that those who read it will be blessed with a better understanding of the truth. The Apostle Paul lovingly points out in his second letter to the Corinthians the comfort we may bring to others when he says (II Cor. 1:3, 4), "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." Many students of Christian Science have found release from sin and pain by reading and studying the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Some time ago a nervous itching rash broke out all over my body with the exception of my face and feet. The trouble was extremely persistent and painful, and it was practically impossible for me to eat and sleep. My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, consulted several doctors concerning my condition. They agreed that the difficulty was due to a nervous breakdown brought on by the menopause. They also said that the condition would probably be present for a year or more.
During this trying time it was a great temptation to me to rub on different medications, as suggested by my husband and kind friends. However, I knew that "only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized" (Science and Health, p. 167). As I studied and prayed to gain a fuller understanding of Truth. I realized the importance of Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., p. 232): "In the sacred sanctuary of Truth are voices of solemn import, but we heed them not." Had I heeded those voices of Truth, much suffering would have been avoided. A false sense of duty, love of human sympathy, self-pity, criticism, apathy, and lack of charity all had to be cast out. Many times relief from the pain came from reading the textbook, and I found restful sleep through working with the one hundred and twenty-first Psalm.
