I wish to express my gratitude for...

I wish to express my gratitude for the protection of divine Love in an experience I had in the summer of 1945, and for all the loving-kindness bestowed upon me by my wife, my family, my friends, and a Christian Science practitioner.

One evening, when I was riding my bicycle on the highway on my way home from work, I was hit by an automobile and taken to a hospital in an unconscious condition. When members of my family came to see me, they asked me if I wished to go home. I said "Yes," and the next day my wife told the doctor that she wished to take me home, but he said that my condition was too serious for me to be moved. Then my wife told him why she wanted to have me at home. The doctor said he would have to take some X-ray pictures, and we would have to sign papers relieving him of all responsibility.

The morning after the X-ray pictures were taken, the doctor told me that I had a skull fracture and a ruptured left kidney, and that I should be on my back for four weeks and not attempt to get up. In three hours my wife arrived with two ambulance men and a stretcher and had me taken home.
