WHAT IS YOUR AMBITION?

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

Everyone wants to "get along in life," as the saying goes, to make a success of his activities, to achieve satisfaction. Though this is always possible, some human beings seem not to know how to do this. Some are not willing to make enough effort to achieve their goal. Some are so consumed with the desire for success that they think of themselves as being in constant competition with all others, whom they must endeavor to surpass by whatever means, fair or foul.

To young people starting out in business or launching into some new venture, Christian Science brings an entirely new point of view about ambition and sets forth the true meaning of success. In the first place, Christian Science rejects the false belief, born of the myth of creation, that man must earn a living by the sweat of his brow. It reveals God as the loving Father-Mother, who tenderly provides for His idea, man, from the infinite resources of inexhaustible Spirit, Soul.

The one Father is always saying to His own (Luke 15:31), "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." When we really understand the import of these words, we cannot be made to believe that man is forced to earn the right to live by grinding labor. Man lives because God is Life; and He has made man to be the evidence and expression of His own abundance. It is clear that strife and unfair competition are unknown in God's spiritual universe, in which man is already eternally provided for. Envy, fear, and hate disappear before the realization that good, which emanates from the one source, God, is available to one and all alike.
