Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Westfield, New Jersey (First Church).

Members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Westfield, dedicated their church edifice at 422 East Broad Street, on Sunday, June 15, 1947. Two services were held, one in the morning and one in the evening.

The local church started as a Christian Science Society in March, 1919, with a nucleus of persons most of whom were members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Cranford. The services were held in rooms on the second floor of the old Post Office Building at 37-39 Elm Street. Two years later, all requirements fulfilled, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Westfield. The attendance at both the church services and the Sunday School had grown rapidly, making it necessary to obtain larger quarters.
