LET NOT MY WORLD GROW SMALL

I ask not petaled path and glory's gold
As years wing by—mine is a wider prayer,
A prayer though much repeated, never old:
God, keep my world from growing small! Let care
Be nurtured that my vision's lengthened scope
Will find illumination, and in giving
Of my freshened faith to others I may hope
For broad horizons and a grander living.
Let not small matters narrow and annoy,
And bind my days into a smug, tight line,
But with the charted force of secret joy
Unloose for me the infinite design.
Let not my world grow small, but stretch it far,
Until my very soul has reached its star!
