NO CAUSE OTHER THAN GOD

When faced with a discordant physical condition, who has not at some time found himself searching for its material or mental cause? Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." The truth contained in this statement is most enlightening and beneficial to the consciousness struggling to free itself from some form of material bondage.

Very often one hears it said that as soon as resentment, hatred, or some other negative state of thought was detected and cast out of consciousness physical healing ensued, thus implying that there is an effect from some cause other than God, good. Here let us read Mrs. Eddy's statement again: "There is but one primal cause." This statement excludes the possibility of the actual existence not only of a physical cause, but also of a false mental one. Hence this true view of cause eliminates the mental error and speeds the physical healing.

It is a generally conceded fact that God is infinite and the creator of the universe, including man. God being infinite, All, He must be the only cause or creator, for there can be no allness without oneness, and it is therefore clearly discernible that cause and effect are in and of God, infinite good.
