Signs of the Times
Answered Prayer
Roy L. Smith The Christian Advocate, Chicago, Illinois
One does not need to be "good" in order to make God hear. One needs only to be needy. We do not win an audience with God merely because we have kept the Commandments, but because we have been overwhelmed by life and have lost our way.
The wandering sheep for which the good shepherd searched all through the night was not "good enough" to command that kind of solicitude at the hands of its master. In fact it may have been an habitual wanderer, for there are sheep like that. But the shepherd knew the dangers and could foresee the sheep's needs, and it is quite possible that long before the sheep began bleating piteously the shepherd was out looking for it.
