It is not easy to convey by means...
It is not easy to convey by means of mere words all one wishes to express when talking of problems overcome through an understanding of Christian Science. This is because the visible and tangible results are the least part; they are only a sign, a feeble indication of what has taken place within, in one's consciousness. And so the facts as set out below do not in any way convey what is so much more important, the enlightenment and the joy that are experienced when a new idea of Truth is perceived and understood.
Christ Jesus said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science, as brought to us through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy, is this truth. To those who know little or nothing of Science, this may seem a sweeping statement to make, but "the proof of the pudding is in the eating," and I have eaten, or proved to my complete satisfaction, that Christian Science, when applied understandingly, does make free, free from every ill "that flesh is heir to;" and it does this without any assistance from material methods, by the simple process of spiritualizing thought and turning it Godward, just as Jesus did.
A few years ago, with worsening business and consequent diminishing income, we found the rent of our flat becoming too burdensome. On page 254 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God." Farther on, in the Glossary (p. 587), she defines heaven in part as "harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle." From this we were able to see that our real home is not in bricks and mortar, is not a particular spot on the globe, but is "harmony; the reign of Spirit," a state of divine consciousness, an awareness of God's presence. And man, being the expression of God, all-intelligent Mind, could never be anything else but aware of this truth. As the realization of this fact became clearer; as our thoughts became more and more attuned to the spiritual facts of being, the outward manifestations tended, as they always must, to conform to harmony, to reality. Unsolicited, we were asked to share a home with another student of Christian Science, which meant the halving of our rent.
