My mother became interested in...
My mother became interested in Christian Science in 1907, a few months after my father passed on. Her grief was so intense that her sister, desirous of helping her and having heard of Christian Science, thought she would try it for herself, and if she received a healing would recommend it to my mother.
This sister had had eczema on her hands for seven years, and doctors had advised her that she should keep her hands out of water and away from soap, flour, and heat. She visited a practitioner, who talked with her and gave her some Christian Science literature to take home. She became so interested in reading it that she forgot her hands for some time. When she next remembered them, she found that they were healed. This healing took place without a treatment.
Thinking it too good to be true, she decided not to tell my mother for a while, but one evening my mother went to her home feeling so bad that she did tell her. In spite of a heavy rainstorm, my mother left immediately to see the same practitioner, who talked with her and gave her a treatment and some literature to read. My mother said that when she began to study Christian Science the promises in the Bible stood out like words of fire. She was healed not only of sorrow, but also of physical difficulties of which she had not a few, and about which she had not even spoken to the practitioner. For years she had been in poor health, but through her study of this Science and the help of the practitioner she was changed to a healthy, happy, and useful person. She found, too, that she could help others, and in time became a practitioner herself.
