FEELING "THE DIVINE ENERGY OF SPIRIT"

The material sense of feeling presents a variety of discords. One mortal feels tired; another feels hopeless; and still another feels cheated, poor, or neglected. In other words, many bemoan this belief of life in matter or the feeling of being earth-bound. Impressing thought with bodily pain often seems the most deceiving of all the temptations of material sense, for in no way does error appear more real than when it claims location in some particular area, perhaps considered vital, so giving rise to greater or lesser fear. Such fear is generally coming to be recognized as more damaging than the physical condition itself, and the medical profession endeavors to keep patients as free of fear as is humanly possible. The basis for their encouragement, however, is often little more than blind optimism, or hope in some discovery fresh from fields of research.

The greatest discovery of all lies in the teaching of Christian Science that man is in reality spiritual, not physical, and is controlled by the law of Spirit, under which there is no occasion for sin, fear, or pain. The Bible contains admonitions many to "fear not." The Revelator, in his letters to the churches, depicts boldly the warfare, the factions and hardships facing the churches in their efforts to preach and serve the one true God. But he writes (Rev. 2:10), "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer." This advice is as applicable today to the individual problem as it is to evil in the aggregate. How often does the student of Christian Science find that the elimination of fear from his consciousness marks the lessening, if not the end, of his difficulty, whether physical or mental.

She at once gave herself a treatment. However, the pain and her fear both increased rapidly until, when she retired, the condition seemed alarming.
