Many years ago I lived next...
Many years ago I lived next door to a Christian Science practitioner. One day I saw a woman with whom I was acquainted and who had not walked for a long time but had turned to Christian Science for healing, get out of an automobile, refusing any assistance from her husband or the practitioner, and walk up the steps and into the house of my neighbor. There was much laughter and evidence of great joy. As I looked on, tears of gratitude streamed down my cheeks, for I knew this was the handiwork of God; that Christian Science had healed her. I had heard of other healings that had taken place through this practitioner's work.
I knew nothing of Christian Science but had a deep respect for it. Several years later, while I was living in another town and going through a very trying and unhappy experience which had impaired my health to a great degree, a woman serving in my home asked me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As I held this book I felt that only a good and pure woman would write such a lovely one. I knew if I could find anything which told of prayer or how to pray I would know if I could accept its teachings, for I had wholeheartedly turned to God for direction in this sad experience many times and had definitely felt His guidance and help. As I turned to the chapter on Prayer I felt a great relief and began to read eagerly. I had never read or heard expressed such beautiful truths.
I reread this chapter many times for about two weeks, whenever I could obtain the book. I received my healing, and many good things began to unfold for me, among them a beautiful home in a new locality where my three daughters could attend the Christian Science Sunday School and I could attend the church. My daughters' spiritual growth and understanding were a great joy to me. We had many healings and proofs of God's care and protection, for which I am extremely grateful.
