Houston, Texas (Fourth Church).

In three separate services, the dedication of Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, Houston, was held on Sunday, January 5, 1947. in the church, 4910 Montrose Boulevard.

The dedication also marked the seventh anniversary of the first service held in the present edifice.

Organized in December, 1027, the church held regular Sunday services in the Warwick Hotel before moving to a new frame building on the south half of the 4900 block on Montrose. The frame structure was later moved with the completion of the purchase of the entire block and plans for a new church building.

Construction of the present brick building was begun in May, 1939. The first service was held in it on January 7, 1940.

Patterned after the classic lines of the New England colonial church, the building houses the main auditorium, with Sunday School rooms, Reading Room, clerk's office, board, committee, and check rooms occupying the north and south wings. The entire building is equipped with air conditioning and central heating.

The spacious foyer is well-appointed, with furnishings suitable to the period of architecture. The color scheme of cream-white walls and blue upholstering and floor covering is carried out in the main auditorium.

Its ninety-seven-foot copper-sheathed spire houses an electric carillon operated from the organ loft, which is situated above the main entrance to the auditorium. The symmetry of the exterior is accentuated by the white columns around the circular portico.
