PRACTICE VERSUS MALPRACTICE

Who does not desire to practice, to put to use, that which he knows? Even quite apart from Christian Science the purpose of all education is to enable one first to know, and then to utilize that which he knows. How much more should the Christian Scientist put into practice the revelation which has been vouchsafed him!

The basis of Christianly scientific practice is spiritual understanding. Mere belief or unenlightened faith is not sufficient. Belief is acquiescence of the human mind in a concept of its own forming and is as changeable and variable as that so-called mind itself. Belief has neither stability nor foundation. Spiritual understanding, which is the revelation of divine Mind, alone demonstrates the power of Mind. It is humanly manifested as that which elevates, blesses, regenerates, and heals mankind.

Principle and practice cannot be separated. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 111), "The Principle of divine metaphysics is God; the practice of divine metaphysics is the utilization of the power of Truth over error; its rules demonstrate its Science." Throughout her writings there are interesting references to "Principle and practice" which the student can find for himself by consulting the Concordances.
