OUR GOD-GIVEN SUFFICIENCY

When Paul wrote to the Corinthians (II Cor. 3:5), "Our sufficiency is of God," he voiced a fundamental law. The rhythm of the universe illustrates the balance which Principle produces, and it is but natural that our lives should show forth this same law in their well-ordered sufficiency.

What a comforting word is sufficiency! It indicates enough, plenty, complete adequacy, ability, and capacity, versatility and readiness. That which is sufficient is equal to all demands; it never becomes depleted, but is forever inexhaustible. It is never unprepared or inexperienced. Be the need a little more or a little less, sufficiency provides a perfect balance. Several times in his second letter to the Corinthians Paul speaks of sufficiency; twice he couples it with grace. He says (II Cor. 9:8), "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."

Again, when he was wrestling with the aggressive suggestion of a tenacious difficulty, the error or mesmerism yielded when there came to him the heavenly conviction (II Cor. 12:9), "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." In her Message to The Mother Church entitled "Christian Science versus Pantheism" Mary Baker Eddy, in describing the healing, regenerating power of Christian Science as demonstrated in the lives of its followers, says (p. 10), "All this is accomplished by the grace of God,— the effect of God understood:"
