It is with sincere gratitude and love for Christian Science, for the joy it has brought into my life, and for the many blessings I have received through the study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that I am writing this testimony, long overdue.

When Christian Science came into my life I had been seeking to know more of Christianity and had been attending various churches for this purpose, because I had caught a glimpse of the truth from the texts (Matt. 28:20), "Lo. I am with you alway," and (26:41), "Watch and pray." One morning, however, owing to the remarks of the minister, I decided not to attend church any more. The same afternoon I met a Christian Scientist to whom I mentioned my decision and the reason. This woman very kindly lent me a copy of Science and Health. When I had read the first chapter, on Prayer, I realized that I had found a pearl of great price. I immediately began to attend the services at one of the London churches.

A few weeks later the desire for smoking left me without any effort on my part, and I then gave up taking intoxicants. How beautiful the world seemed after I began to realize somewhat the meaning of ever-present, all-powerful divine Love, and to know that God guides, comforts, protects, and heals us when we accept this wonderful truth and trust implicitly.

After attending Christian Science services for about eighteen months, during which time I criticized and doubted the various testimonies I heard, I had my next experience and began to use the understanding I had gleaned from the services. We were traveling at the time in a crowded train, and our daughter, age two and a half years, was suddenly taken ill. I at once began to declare the truth and to know that God was there with us. A woman asked if she could help, saying that she was a nurse and understood such cases. I very reluctantly let the child go, and as the woman began helping her materially, I declared that God, infinite divine Love, was ever present and He would tell me what to do.

At that moment an inspector tapped me on the shoulder and said he had cleared a first-class compartment, and that I could take the child there for the rest of the journey. Soon afterwards the little girl fell into a natural sleep. At the next stop we had to wait for another train before continuing our journey, and it was during this period that we allowed fear to get in and the child became ill again. While declaring the truth and knowing that God would guide me, I was persuaded by a police inspector to take the child to a children's hospital not far away. Everyone was very kind to us, and I expressed the desire that no medicine or injections should be given to the child because we had lost one little girl of the same age in a similar condition. Our daughter soon recovered, and I was allowed to take her away in two or three days. She has never had any recurrence of this complaint. She is now a married woman and has a child of her own.

After this experience there followed a period of wonderful demonstrations. By declaring the truth that there is nothing lost in the sight of God I have been guided to a lost article, or it has turned up in what seemed a miraculous way.

Periodically I used to suffer from sciatica, and when this difficulty attacked me in its severest form I knew I had to prove the nothingness of error and the allness of Life, Truth, and Love. For nearly a fort-night I endeavored to overcome this error by reading our textbook, but I could not stay in one position long or study for any length of time, and I did not get any better. My family, thinking I should get a little relief, placed a box of pills within reach, but I recognized this as a temptation and held on to Truth. A day or two afterwards, feeling very disheartened, I took up the textbook and read "the scientific statement of being" on page 468. Soon afterwards I got up out of the chair, healed—so much so that I turned around thinking that something had fallen from me and I have never suffered from this complaint since.

In conclusion, I can only express my sincere gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society and for all the activities of the Cause which it has been my privilege to embrace. —Harold Howes Marshall, St. Albans. Hertfordshire, England.

I wish to verify my husband's testimony and to express gratitude for the above healings, which I witnessed.
