The privilege of attending the...

The privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School was mine from the time I was six years old, but my attendance was not very regular until I reached my teens. I am very grateful for the loving help of Sunday School teachers and other Christian Science friends and practitioners.

Although I graduated from high school in 1932, during the depression, I had continuous employment in my work as a secretary from that time. When one position ended, another unfolded, with not more than two weeks between any of them. I relied on Science constantly in working out the problem of place, and each new position showed progress. Two of them lasted five years.

I wish to relate a healing which helped me to learn the importance of doing proper unselfish protective work, as we are taught in Christian Science. Up to the time I took my last position I had never had influenza. During the first winter there, however, I heard a great deal of talk about this trouble, and everyone in the office had had to stay home at one time or another because of it. Finally, I too had to go home. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and the fever was gone about two hours later; the weakness left after about three days, and I then returned to work. The following winter this whole incident was repeated exactly as before.

The third winter came around, and I again began to hear this conversation. My first thought was, Do I have to go through all that again? Instantly I realized that I did not. I began to examine my thinking, and realized that whereas I had thought I had done protective work the other two times, I had really been thinking only of myself. I saw then that I must realize that the truth is universal. From then on, whenever anyone voiced this difficulty I mentally reversed the error and knew that man as God's image and likeness could not have it. I filled my thinking with positive facts about the ever-presence of God, good, and remained free, although others in the office did have to stay at home some of the time. During the fourth winter, I am grateful to say, there was no more talk of this trouble, and no one in the office had to be at home with it.

My husband and I were beautifully sustained during his three years' service overseas in the Pacific theater of war.

I am grateful for the blessing of class instruction, and thank God for His infinite goodness and ever-present love. I am grateful that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was so pure and consecrated that God revealed Christian Science to her.—(Mrs.) Doris Hill Wilson, Pasadena, California.
