My Precious Books

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Judy was a very earnest little student of Christian Science and attended the Christian Science Sunday School regularly. Often on the way to Sunday School Judy would notice the little blue or brown cases of books that the older children were carrying. She eagerly looked forward to the time when she might have a set of these books in a little blue or brown case, which she knew to be made up of a Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She thought of what fun it would be to carry them to Sunday School.

It was not long after Judy started attending Sunday School that she became familiar with Mrs. Eddy's words on page 494 of Science and Health, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Very naturally Judy thought of applying the truth of this helpful statement in getting her books. Judy's mother pointed out to her another of Mrs. Eddy's statements, namely, that "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 307). It was not difficult for Judy to understand what her mother was teaching her about trusting God with her desires. Earlier they had talked of how much better it is to know that God provides what we need in Love's way than willfully to want our own way or to expect God to supply any merely selfish want.

Judy thought much about what Mother had said and prayed to her heavenly Father-Mother, Love, that her needs would be met in Love's way. It was soon possible for Judy to go with her mother to the Christian Science Reading Room and to purchase a Bible and Science and Health. Judy was happy to see the various books on display and to be able to choose the set that she was to have for her very own.
