My first healing in Christian Science...

My first healing in Christian Science took place twenty-three years ago, when I was suffering from tuberculosis, the result of being gassed while serving with the Army in France during World War I. I am grateful to the practitioner who so clearly enabled me to see that the real man can have no fear. With this understanding a complete healing resulted.

It was not until ten years later, however, that I turned wholeheartedly to the study of Christian Science, when the problems of lack of supply and employment confronted me. While I was in this predicament, and firmly believing that it was useless to try to obtain any sort of work, the thought came to me that I really did have a job, and that was to know more about God. I then decided to study for a period of a week, and went to a Christian Science Reading Room when it opened at nine o'clock, took a half hour for lunch, and quit at five. The first three days were anything but pleasant, and often drowsiness overcame me so that the attendant in the Reading Room found it necessary to awaken me. I thought that the hours would never pass, but I held firmly to my resolve.

The next three days were glorious ones, which I shall never forget, and it was then, while looking up references on "employment" in the Concordance, that I discovered that wonderful address by our revered Leader entitled "Obedience," beginning on page 116 in "Miscellaneous Writings." In this address Mrs. Eddy states (p. 118), "Be of good cheer; the warfare with one's self is grand; it gives one plenty of employment, and the divine Principle worketh with you,—and obedience crowns persistent effort with everlasting victory."
