Mary Baker Eddy writes in...
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 57): "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it." Since I owe my happiness and well-being today to the understanding of Truth as revealed in Christian Science, and would like everyone to share in the God-bestowed blessings which may be enjoyed through its study, it is with great joy that I relate the following testimony.
I had known of this Science for many years and had experienced and witnessed several healings. The one I am going to relate, however, aroused me to see how necessary it is to be constantly on the alert to prevent attacks of error, and to live in obedience to our Leader's injunction to every student of Christian Science to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion. (See Church Manual by Mrs. Eddy, Art. VIII, Sect. 6.)
One evening as I was leaving my business office it seemed as though I had been suddenly struck across the back of the head with a heavy instrument. I staggered to a chair and called for help to my young daughter, who was in the shop below. She had the presence of mind to telephone to a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner. I kept declaring to myself that God is my Life. I recalled some words spoken by my teacher: "Life is not in your heart." Those around me were not Christian Scientists, but I managed to persuade them to get a car and take me home. So potent was the foregoing statement of truth that I was able to walk down a steep flight of stairs to the car. Here I should like to state that as I walked through the shop I noticed that my small daughter was standing quietly at the desk reading from Science and Health, and I was grateful for this.
