The Divine Parentage
Christian Science teaches that God makes man in His image and likeness and that, therefore, man is the offspring of Spirit and not a creation of matter. It is evident then that our only real selfhood expresses the qualities of Spirit. Because man is the expression of God. Spirit, it is impossible to recognize him through the material senses.
At the Christian Science Sunday service the words are read (I John 3:2), "Beloved, now are we the sons of God." meaning, of course, that at this instant, and not at some future date, man is God's son. The realization of this fact as to our only true spiritual selfhood is most important.
Mankind usually expects the son to be the heir to his father's riches, and sometimes, taken at their worldly valuation, the son's prospects seem great. Nevertheless worldly riches do not bring security; in fact, they often seem to bring care and anxiety to the recipient.
