In I Corinthians 3:11 we read, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." Of that we are assured, for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269): "I therefore plant myself unreservedly on the teachings of Jesus, of his apostles, of the prophets, and on the testimony of the Science of Mind. Other foundations there are none."

Through three dear ones—a grandmother, her sister, and my mother—I was grounded in the teachings of Christian Science. When finally a Sunday school was organized in the western town in which we lived, I seldom missed a Sunday, and each one of my teachers had a part in unfolding Christian Science to me. Of particular interest was one remark: "Every truth in Science and Health you must prove for yourself." That seemed a big job then, but it has become bigger since, as my consciousness has become more alert to the suggestions of mortal mind.

Throughout my high school days the daily study of the Lesson-sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly and the application of Science resulted in continued demonstration evidenced by physical healings and by success in classroom and school endeavors. During my college years an alert practitioner taught the Sunday school class of which I was a member, and we learned to apply Christian Science to every phase of our college careers.
