Let Us Journey with Youth
The youth of today lives unquestionably at a wholesome moment in human history. It is a period of inquiry, of weighing and appraising inherited traditions, of growing discontent with many material foibles and limitations, and of reaching out for that which bears the hallmark of genuine progress.
We use the word "wholesome" to describe such an epoch, for salutary is the unrest which precipitates the casting off from hampering moorings and inspires a fearless launching out in search of a better, freer world. Parents should recognize this definite scene shift in present-day experience and intelligently cope with it instead of spending precious moments bewailing the error of the times and prefacing futile protests with. " 'Twas never thus in my youth!"
But does this mean that our twentieth-century elders are to sit idly by while their young folk prepare to set sail on their voyage of discovery? Why not go with them? Make the adventure mutually profitable. Youth brings to the mature thought needed rejuvenation, whilst maturity may give strength and guidance to untried seamanship. The progressive adult should be as eager as the progressive young person to taste the joy of a better sense of life.
