No Fear in Love
"Always begin your treatment by allaying the fear of patients," admonishes our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 411 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The most potent antidote for fear is Love; therefore fear is allayed by bringing to the patient a sense of divine Love's ever-presence and all-power. Love reveals itself to each individual, and since Love is infinite, its inspiration is unending and never stereotyped. A Christian Science treatment, therefore, cannot be fully outlined in advance, nor prescribed by one person for another. It must unfold through divine revelation and reason to meet the specific needs of each moment as these appear.
The practicing student spiritually equips himself to handle fear, serpentine material sense, by entering into "the secret place of the most High," there to behold God, His allness, oneness, ever-presence, omniscience, and omnipotence, and to identify his true selfhood with God, Mind, as His perfect expression. This pure state of consciousness is of itself a denial to the presence of fear.
Fear claims specifically that it is present now but the spiritual fact is that fear is never really anywhere, because God absolute intelligence, forever fills all space. Fear's self-announcement is all there is to fear, and it is potently and effectively rebuked by the understanding of God as the only presence and reality. Fear may be associated with certain material conditions and circumstances, and claim to have reasons for its existence and presence. All this reasoning is material.
