Happiness and contentment in this life never arise out of vain striving, or envy, or lust for the possessions of others, or out of turmoil or strife. Happiness and contentment are inner qualities, and unless the spirit is calm and assured there can be no soul-satisfying peace.

In sum, it is not what a person has on the outside that creates happiness and contentment; it is that which reposes on the inside. The unhappiness of many persons of wealth is proof enough of this. The qualities most sought ... are born within and expand within.
