Christian Science has done so...

Christian Science has done so much for me that gratitude impels me to share some of the wonderful healings that this Science of Life has accomplished.

When, over three years ago my unit was drafted out East, it appeared that there we would have to fight not only the enemy but an even greater foe in the form of disease. Now, after three years spent in operations on the Burma front. I am grateful that Christian Science shows God and His universe to be the only reality. Science has proved this to me by the healing and prevention of sickness and sin.

Shortly after arriving in Assam, in 1942. I was posted to a locality that was then considered a deadly malaria area. Through the hot months I was able to keep above the belief, but in the autumn symptoms of that disease appeared. It came to me that the healing could be made by God alone, without my having to take drugs. Such an exemption from medical treatment would be possible as long as I was able to carry out my military duties. So I took my stand for Truth, and cabled a practitioner for help.

I was wonderfully sustained during the next few weeks. Although I oftentimes used to study the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings by Mrs. Eddy all night, always with the dawn there came renewed energy and strength for the day's duties.

On page 421 of her textbook Mrs. Eddy states: "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him. There is no disease." As these truths became clearer I was awakened to man's dominion over matter, and was helped to shake myself free from the sense of sickness and of depressing surroundings. Although to human sense I was unfit to travel, leave was granted, and I set out with five days' hard journey ahead under abnormal conditions.

All the time en route I was sustained by the fact that God would uphold and lead. Love did wonderful things on that journey. At every stage there was always someone spontaneously giving a helping hand. The need of a quick route to India, of food, water, and accommodation, seemingly very difficult, was wonderfully supplied. Arriving at a large city, where unknown to me proper accommodation without long notice was believed unobtainable. I was led straight to quarters which met my every need. While waiting in this city for a train to my final destination the healing took place. Later, on the expiry of leave, I returned to my unit to meet them bound for a pleasanter locality.

When there was a claim of a return of the disease, it was healed through the understanding that there could be no relapse from something that had never existed. Always shall I be most grateful for this healing, as it was such an inspiring proof that God's law of health, as revealed in Christian Science, overrules all medical beliefs about disease and drugs.

Another healing for which I am very grateful is that of the tendency to experience extreme diarrhea. The overcoming took less time on each occasion, and the last one was instantaneous. Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 388 of the textbook, "The fact is, food does not affect the absolute Life of man, and this becomes self-evident, when we learn that God is our Life," provided the key to this healing. The healing has completely dissolved fear of dysentery.

There have also been healings wholly through Christian Science, of undiagnosed fevers, stomach trouble, and of the aftereffects of compulsory inoculations.

Grateful, too, am I for the healing of a sense of separation and loss which overwhelmed me when drafted abroad. Realization of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement about God, that "He is man's only real relative on earth and in heaven" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 151), brought this healing.

Added to this is gratitude for the complete protection of my wife and home during the blitz and flying bomb raids on London. When I was thinking of her at those times the ninety-first Psalm was seen to be a command enforcing omnipotent protection.

Space permits no further experiences, but my heart is full of gratitude and praise to God for our dear Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, who has given to the world this practical and never-failing Science of salvation. Also I am grateful for membership both in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the consecrated, loving work of the practitioner who has faithfully shown God's healing love to me and to my wife through all these and other experiences.

Indeed, in the words of the Psalm (106:1), "Praise ye the Lord.... for his mercy endureth for ever."—(C.S.M.) Geoffrey Fingland, London, England.
