Christian Science Committee on Publication for Ontario, Canada, Reports

This past year has been a very friendly year with the press of the province. Not a single misrepresentation of Christian Science has appeared in our newspapers in the entire year, and only one unfriendly reference appeared in the religious publications.

On the other hand, the amount of constructive material dealing with the teachings and activities of Christian Science, in view of the limitations placed upon newsprint, has been most generous and gratifying.

All newspapers in the province which had at one time or another been subscribers to The Christian Science Monitor on the exchange-for-advertising basis but had allowed their subscriptions to lapse, were again written to, and all newspapers which had not at any time subscribed to the Monitor were approached again. Altogether forty-four new subscribers were secured.

In one instance a newspaper allowed its subscription to lapse and did not renew. Upon return from overseas the former manager and editor wrote as follows: "The writer has recently returned to the Herald office after serving for three years in the Canadian Army, and since the Monitor's presentation of various subjects is always helpful in editorial and other writing, he would like to be able to read it regularly again."

In September, 1945, Christian Science religious programs were being broadcast over five stations of the province. The Committee on Publication was invited to meet with the officials of CFRB and others early in September to reconsider the broadcasting of church services and religious programs. At the request of the Committee the chairman of the Joint Radio Committee was also invited. The outcome was that services from First Church of Christ, Scientist. Toronto, were returned to the air to be broadcast on alternate Sundays.

During the fall of 1944, thirteen churches were addressed on the work of the office, with special reference to health insurance measures.

Blessed are the pure in heart,
For theirs it is to see
The good that is the only real—
Here, now, eternally.
