The Joy of Being a Christian Scientist

To thought unenlightened by Christian Science the condition of the world today may seem to be dark and hopeless. Those unacquainted with the Principle upon which Bible prophecies are based may believe that all joy has departed from the earthly scene—that distrust, fear, greed, disillusionment, and frustration have displaced good.

Although from the limited mortal viewpoint the general situation and the immediate outlook may not appear favorable, the earnest student of Christian Science can remain calm, confident, undisturbed—yes, even joyous. He knows that he can retain his divinely bestowed peace and joy in the midst of earth's seeming turmoil. He has gained enough spiritual understanding to know that the operation of Truth destroying error in the human consciousness is no more to be feared than the action of sunlight in dispelling darkness.

Christ Jesus predicted fermentation in world thought—the conflict between the divinely real and eternal forces of good and the supposititious powers of evil. Hear these prophetic words (Luke 21:25,26): "There shall be ... upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; ... men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth." Continuing, the Master gave this heartening promise to all who seek refuge in God: "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."
