Nehemiah
Cupbearer
to a king—
Yet with a royalty of heart
That knew the power of God,
And vision that discerned beyond
The ruin of the city walls.
The people of Jerusalem,
Defeated, dwelling in despair,
Listened to his words
And rose in eagerness to build
A stronger fortress—unafraid.
Cupbearer to a king—
Without the scepter, crown, or rod,
But with a royalty divine,
An undisputed sovereignty,
One man, with God.
