Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Wisconsin State Journal

Portage, Wisconsin (First Church).

The dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Portage, was observed on Sunday, September 3, 1944, with services in the morning and afternoon.

The site at West Wisconsin and West Pleasant Streets was purchased in 1922, and the construction of the church edifice was begun in 1929.

Christian Science services were first held in Portage in 1899. On October 24, 1927. the society received articles of incorporation from the state of Wisconsin and became First Church of Christ, Scientist.
