Christian Science Committee on Publication for Connecticut Reports

Public attacks and unfriendly references to Christian Science have become rare. None have appeared in Connecticut newspapers during the past year. For this we have reason to be grateful, but not complacent, because unfriendly tracts are still being circulated. Two newspaper articles in which Christian Science was referred to in a manner indicating misunderstanding of our religion called for corrective replies, which were printed in full. Several very friendly open letters by non-Christian Scientists were brought to our attention.

Among our numerous activities may be cited the following: Information regarding Section 233g of the 1943 Supplement to the General Statutes of Connecticut whereby school children may be excused, on religious grounds, from physical or medical examination or treatment, and from medical instruction, was widely circulated, and application forms for the use of parents and guardians were distributed before the bill to which this section was appended became operative as law.

In April a survey of school curriculums was made to learn to what extent medical instruction, if any, was being given. It revealed very little of an objectionable nature, but it becomes increasingly apparent that educators are being influenced in that direction.
