Challenge each thought by day,
Challenge each thought by night,
Silence each thought
Which does not bring
The elements of light.
The guardian of the gate
Is wisdom's steadfast beam,
Illuming every right idea,
Dissolving every dream!
Without this guiding ray
The hosts of hell would swarm,
And cast a trembling hope away
Upon the seething storm.
The glory of God's day
Need never more depart,
If you will watch and pray
With understanding heart.
