Let God Direct Your Thinking

A Christian Science practitioner once told a woman who had been coming to her for healing for an illness which was not apparently yielding, that she must keep her thoughts on God. "Oh, but I do," came the reply, "I think of God constantly."

It was a half-hour's bus ride from the practitioner's to the patient's home. As the patient left, the practitioner asked her to do one thing—to think, only of God from the time she left the office until she reached home. Willingly the patient agreed to such a simple request.

Within the hour the practitioner's telephone rang. It was the patient reporting that she had never had such a difficult half-hour in her life. She said that every thought under the sun had passed through her mind, and she had never before been aware of how little time she spent consistently thinking of God. She did not like many of the thoughts she had found herself thinking on that bus ride, and she realized for the first time that her thoughts needed watching. With this awakening her illness vanished.
