"Ask, and it shall be given you"

There is an overtone of judgment
in that tender invitation,
"Ask, and it shall be given you."
Love would give all true worth, eternal loveliness—
and shall we till our hands with fragile trinkets?

Then as we ponder on the fullness of that offer,
Like a great wave the boundless love
of Life and Love sweeps over thought,
washing away our petty hopes, our vain desires;
while to humility and answering joy,
Mind lifts the veil from things divine,
and we see patience, purity, strong faith, and understanding
fair gentleness and grace—the perfect bliss
of unselfed love, good will to all.

The grateful heart responds.
Oh, these, dear Father-Mother God, give me,
And hears again the wondrous benediction,
"Son, thou art ever with me....
All that I have is thine."
