A story which The World published on a case at law mentions Christian Science in a way which might indicate to some readers that Christian Science teaches or at least condones hypnotism, mesmerism, and the like. To correct any such erroneous impression which may arise, I shall, appreciate the publication of this letter.

Christian Science is based on the teachings of the Master, Christ Jesus, and has the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy as its only textbooks. Mrs. Eddy recognized hypnotism and mesmerism as evil. In a chapter named "Animal Magnetism Unmasked," Mrs. Eddy thoroughly denounces such iniquity (Science and Health, p. 103): "As named in Christian Science, animal magnetism or hypnotism is the specific term for error, or mortal mind. It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and is both evil and good; that evil is as real as good and more powerful. This belief has not one quality of Truth."
