Words cannot adequately express...
Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to God for Christian Science. While reading the chapter on Prayer in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I realized that it contained the light for which I had been searching for a number of years. I had been so dissatisfied with orthodox religious teachings that I had not attended church of any kind for some time. As I continued reading the textbook I found much in it that I did not understand, but I glimpsed enough to realize that the truth it expounded could heal if one honestly and earnestly applied it.
One day I was put to the test and was able to prove the healing power of Christian Science just by reading the textbook. Our younger son was sent home from school with all the symptoms of infantile paralysis. It was at the beginning of the fall term, and, since several cases of it had been reported by the health authorities, a great deal of fear had been expressed in the local newspaper regarding this malady. Most of the people afflicted had been staying at a summer resort near my home, where our son had been visiting.
The school officials were keeping very close watch over the children, and had sent a list of the symptoms of the disease to every child's home. When our boy came home with the school nurse, I realized that here was an opportunity to take my stand in Christian Science. He was put to bed and during the evening and part of the night he was quite ill becoming delirious at times. I thank God for His perfect love and the assurance that casts out all fear, for it did not even occur to me to call a practitioner. My wife and I took turns reading the textbook at the boy's bedside, and after several hours he fell into a peaceful sleep. He awoke the next morning completely healed. This took place on Friday, and the following Monday he went back to school, where he satisfactorily passed the school doctor's examination.
