With deep gratitude for an increased...
With deep gratitude for an increased understanding of God and man, gained through the study of Christian Science, I give this testimony with the desire that it may help others.
Christian Science was presented to me eleven years ago by a friend. I had believed this Science was not of God, but after reading some testimonies, and the Editors' statement at the head of each group, I decided that these testimonies must be true, and if true, that Christian Science must be the work of God. But still I was in some doubt and wanted to be sure. So one night when I was taken with a high fever and other severe symptoms of an attack of influenza, I decided to find out which was the right path. I had been praying that God would lead me and show me the way. So I decided to use no material remedies, but to rely entirely on God for my healing. I asked Him to show me the truth, and asked if Christian Science were the truth and God-inspired, that I might have a quick healing, instead of suffering for days, or even weeks, from this disease as I had done formerly. My body was racked with pain, but I determined to rely on God. I studied the ninety-first Psalm, and endeavored to apply it to myself.
About eleven o'clock I realized something of the meaning of this verse: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." Then I went to sleep. I slept soundly all night, and awakened the next morning entirely healed. I shall never forget the happiness I felt. I was convinced of both the origin and the efficacy of Christian Science, and I have never since doubted either. That day I started on a new path, the path from material sense to Soul. And on all occasions when I have applied Christian Science wholeheartedly and emphatically, it has never failed.
