Getting Better

When one places oneself under Christian Science treatment, it is natural to begin looking for evidences of healing. Sometimes recovery comes instantaneously; at other times it seems slow. When delayed, it is not uncommon for one to have periods of discouragement. Occasionally, there may even be doubts that Christian Science is adequate to meet the particular type of trouble which seems to be present.

Should such be the situation, it might be well to ask oneself if he is unduly observing the inharmony, for that may be the very thing which is obstructing the healing. Striving too hard humanly for something may cause one to tighten his grasp on what should be released. We must make sure that thought is not so focused on the error as to be unable to yield readily to the touch of Truth.

The counsel of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is pertinent on this point. She says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261): "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."
