My Victory Garden
In
victory garden of my heart
May seeds of Spirit flourish;
There holy thoughts may Truth impart,
And inspiration nourish.
Courage and faith, which grow the more—
On sturdy stalks unbending—
Unmoved when tempests lash and roar,
Strong to withstand their rending;
Patience and meekness, hope and trust,
In quiet grace unfolding;
Steadfastness, peace—my garden must
Be rich such fruitage holding!
Gentleness, joy, and gratitude,
And goodness without measure;
And love, the greatest of them all,
The heart's most golden treasure.
No weed of sin or doubt or fear
Can stay among such growing;
Love-planted thoughts are ever near
Where living streams are flowing.
I pray within my heart such seeds,
Abundantly upspringing,
May yield a harvesting of deeds
That shall be victory bringing.
