Self-Surrender

Dear Father , when the way is dark,
And just one step I see,
Help me with joy to take that step
And trust the next to Thee.

Teach me with willing feet to tread
The path Thou dost prepare,
Rejoicing in Thy guiding love
And resting on Thy care.

Help me to know no will but Thine,
To lay self-will aside,
To spurn pride and self-righteousness
And in Thy law abide.

Grant me humility to do
Whatever task is mine,
That joy and confidence and love
Through all my work may shine.

Give me an understanding heart,
With Love's compassion strong,
Quick to discern where justice lies,
Uncover every wrong.

Oh, grant that those with whom I work
Thy presence calm may feel,
Give me to speak Thy words of truth
That waken, help, and heal.

Thus, in the daily round of life,
In thoughts and deeds and talk,
My Father's presence I may prove,
And with my Father walk.
