True Morale
Morale is a barometer which indicates the mental status of a people. It rises or falls in accordance with changing thought, just as a thermometer responds to changing atmospheric conditions. In the present world crisis much is being thought and voiced about the morale of the armies, both military and civilian. Untiring organized efforts are being made to keep that morale at the highest possible level. These efforts are meeting with a good measure of success.
However, a mental poise that will not fluctuate with changing material conditions can be attained only when established on the basis of spiritually right thinking. Based upon the knowledge and understanding of the changeless, immutable law of God, one's mental altitude is constantly in the ascendant. This is definitely an essential requirement in the present world situation. In fact, history does not record a time when the need for alertness and consecration was more urgent than it is today.
Consistent right thinking results in courageous, God-controlled actions, which are the universal need of men and nations. This need is abundantly supplied through the correct application of the teachings of Christian Science. Many years ago Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, perceived that all things are primarily mental; that everything which exists, every new development, is the result of thought; and that the quality of one's thinking determines the quality of one's being and the success or failure of one's endeavors. From this premise must come the inevitable conclusion that salvation is dependent upon the individual exercise of correct thinking and its application to every situation.
