Teamwork
"Three helping one another bear the burden of six," says an old proverb. Stupendous are men's potentialities for universal good when they work together. The lone savage slings his vine rope to bridge a jungle stream. Men in groups, disciplined by the laws of engineering science, erect that modern miracle, a great steel bridge. In a social enterprise it is the performance of the whole that counts. A poorly integrated group, whose activities hinge loosely around those of a few "stars," brings disappointing results. How pleasant to see a family pull together, each member helping the others to make the most of their abilities.
One of childhood's first lessons is learning to work and play with others. Humanity's childhood, the signs of the times indicate, is gradually passing. However slowly, and with whatever temporary setbacks, the various classes and groups of human society are learning the wisdom and the technique of harmonious co-operation for the common good. Enlightened men and women, for instance, know that in the advancement of all, both men and women, lies the highest good for both. It is not too much to expect that eventually capital and labor, the various peoples of the world, will awaken to their mutual responsibilities as shareholders in a free world order. Learning this lesson will help to bring home to humanity the basic truth of the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood and motherhood of God, the universal, the only Mind of man.
This actualization of the truth about man, resulting in increasingly intelligent co-operation, will strengthen the life stream of our church. As each member works alone to square his thinking—his own individual, daily, hourly living—with divine Principle, he will more fully demonstrate that healing activity which is the heritage, the duty, and to a marked degree the present achievement, of each member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist. Then truly will "the leaves of the tree" be "for the healing of the nations," the banishing of cruelty, greed, and war. Then will the irresistible, all-penetrating activity of Truth reach out to the remotest bounds of the earth. Even now is this invigorating, enlightening, all-loving Truth being shown forth in the hourly thinking of each active member, proving what the Christ can do for mankind.
