The Vanguard

"Evening , and morning, and at noon" do they pray,
Their casements open to Jerusalem,
As deep desire and earnest expectation
Are winged to reach the great heart of God.
For in the quiet home or busy market,
In shop or school or on the battlefield,
Air-borne, sea-borne, or in a tyrant's prison,
In prayer the thought is open to behold
The ever-blessed city of our God.
Such holy thoughts a vanguard form of angels
Who light the way for men in distant places,
With Pentecostal flame the globe encircling,
Destroying hatred, fear, and all oppression.
Effectual, fervent prayer so much availeth.
Lift up your heart with joy as you remember,
"Evening, and morning, and at noon" do they pray,
Their casements open to Jerusalem.
