Walk to Emmaus
While
walking the Emmaus road,
afraid of what their hearts forebode,
speaking in terms of doubt and shame
at mention of the Master's name.
the two trudged on in bitter grief.
Now silently the stranger walked
beside them; knew their need, and talked
of Scripture, preaching Christ for them,
dispelling fear and visions dim;
until through truth they gained relief.
Then as their hearts within them burned
in yearning, they the Lord discerned;
and as he vanished from their sight,
they saw the resurrection light;
removing doubt and unbelief.
