Introductions to Lectures
Wilmington, North Carolina (First Church).
Lecturer: Gavin W. Allan; introduced by Ray F. Earles. who said:—
In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (p. 259), "Truth is the power of God which heals the sick and the sinner, and is applicable to all the needs of man."
Some here may feel the need of a better understanding of God; some, the need of a better sense of home, supply, or health. Whatever your need seems to be, Christian Science correctly applied will solve your problem. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494). "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
Let me cite you an instance of a human need being met through Christian Science. Just before the close of the first World War I was wounded. After undergoing hospitalization for some time in France. I was returned to this country for further treatment. A healing not being effected. I was given a physical disability discharge, and judged unfit for military service. Shortly thereafter I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me. I not only received help but was completely healed. You too can be released from a sense of bondage.
Today as never before mankind is crying out for freedom, security, peace, and harmony. Christian Science has revealed to this age what real freedom, peace, and harmony are.
Morecambe and Heysham, Lancashire, England (First Church).
Lecturer: Charles W. J. Tennant; introduced by B. Tatham Woodhead, who said:—
Christian Science is a subject of great interest, because it is helpfully applicable to every smallest part of our lives, bringing us blessedness and happiness, as well as health and salvation. It has healed me of heart and lung trouble and of a serious internal difficulty; it has helped me in business, and has enabled me to triumph over all the difficulties with which I have been faced.
I came to Christian Science seeking a satisfactory and scientific understanding of God. It has certainly given me this.
