Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Laporte, Indiana (First Church).—First Church of Christ. Scientist. LaPorte, was dedicated on Sunday, August 23, 1942, at morning and afternoon services.

A brief history of the Christian Science movement in LaPorte was read, and this follows in part:

"In 1900, Christian Science Society, LaPorte, was organized. Meetings were held at 907 Michigan Avenue.

"The steadily enlarging congregation in 1904 necessitated a change of location to rooms in the Odd Fellows Building. In 1905, the society obtained a charter from the state of Indiana to become known as First Church of Christ, Scientist, La Porte. It was so organized as a branch of The Mother Church.

"In 1908 the continuing growth and expanding interest made further changes necessary, and property at 1008 Michigan Avenue was acquired by purchase. This property was reconditioned to meet the requirements of that time, but local progress in the Cause of Christian Science made additional space necessary, and in 1920 the building was thoroughly remodeled as a colonial structure with a more than doubled seating capacity."— The Herald-Argus.

Caro, Michigan (First Church).—The members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Caro, dedicated their church on Sunday, August 23, 1942, by holding two services, morning and afternoon.

A history of the church was read. This follows in part:

"Christian Science Society, Caro, was organized in 1901. On the sixth day of July, 1905, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Caro, was duly organized and incorporated under the laws of the state of Michigan. In the same year the members purchased a location in the village of Caro from a local church. In November, 1938, they voted to remodel the building, and this was completed in August, 1940."—Advertiser.
